BENEFITS

Classes can trade Pasta for Pennies

The 10th Pasta for Pennies, a school program to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by the Olive Garden restaurant chain, is slated from February through May. Clark County School District classes that collect the most pennies receives a pasta party from Olive Garden. Since the program's inception there has been more than $17 million raised nationwide. Those interested can call the nonprofit organization at 436-4220.

EMPLOYMENT

Clark County seeks high school interns

Clark County plans to hire 150 high school students for an eight-week paid internship.

Students must be in their junior or senior year by the fall of 2004 to apply. Interns will earn $8 per hour and work 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday.

Applications are available at on the fourth floor of the Clark County Government Center in the Business Development Division or from local high school job banks.

ENTERTAINMENT

Theater company doing Brecht play

The Nevada Theatre Company continues its sixth season with "The Good Person of Szechuan" by Bertolt Brecht. The play is about the gods in search of a good person.

The show runs Feb. 20 through March 7 with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

VOLUNTEERS

Rape Crisis Center seeks advocates

The Rape Crisis Center is looking for volunteers to be empathetic advocates for victims.

Victim advocates donate six to 12 hours a week answering hot lines and responding to hospital calls. They must be 18 or older, have their own transportation and pass background checks. A 50-hour training course also is required.

GOVERNMENT

Planning Commission, City Council to meet

The Henderson Planning Commission is scheduled to meet on Thursday and the next scheduled city council meeting is Tuesday.

Regular city meetings will be temporarily located at the Henderson Convention Center's grand ballroom, 200 Water St., during renovation activity on the older part of City Hall. Those interested in obtaining a council agenda call the city clerk's office at 565-2057 or for a commission agenda call 565-2474.
