Favorite Sons & Daughters



View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. Ross S. Hobbs will be a junior this fall at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he majors in business management and is ranked within the top 100 students of his class for military and physical performance. While in basic training, Hobbs was chosen as one of nine out of 1,200 to be listed as "outstanding basic" for the cobras squadron. This summer he has been an assistant drill instructor for the enlisted men's basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, where he will go on to be a cadet master sergeant during leadership training. Following that, Hobbs will be promoted to superintendent, the leading junior for squad 12, and he will take on the rank of cadet senior master sergeant.

Hobbs is the son of Mary and Bill Kellar of Anthem Heights. He is a 2001 graduate of Foothills High School.

La Tasha Bey-Snyder recently graduated from the New School University in New York, N.Y., and was accepted into the NBC page program where she will have the chance to learn about the inner workings of network television. To be accepted into the program, applicants must possess a degree from a four-year college or university and have maintained a 3.00 GPA along with related broadcast experience. While attending New School University, Bey-Snyder maintained a 3.7 GPA and completed an internship with the New York Transit News WYNE-TV. While at the station, she was instrumental in the continued success of the inner-city youth mentoring program.

Bey-Snyder is a 2002 graduate of UNLV, where she received a bachelor's degree in sociology. While attending UNLV, Bey-Snyder received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in 2001-2002 and was placed on the National Dean's List for 2001-2002. Bey-Snyder is a 1998 graduate of Clark High School.

Zachary Winters recently graduated cum laude from Whittier College in Whittier, Calif., with a degree in business administration. Winters is a 2000 graduate of Cimarron Memorial High School, where he was awarded the Emily Dickinson Scholarship to attend Whittier College. While at Whittier, Winters received the Murdy Writing Award from the Department of Business, and also was recognized as Best of the Class by the department of business faculty. Since graduation, he has relocated to Maui, Hawaii, where he is currently working as the general manager of the Old Lahina House.
