'Fiesta Flamenca' set for Aug. 13

Sun City Summerlin Community Association has scheduled "Fiesta Flamenca," with acclaimed Spanish dancer and actor Antonio Vargas, for 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at Starbright Theatre.

Starbright is located at the Pinnacle Community Center, 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd.

Tickets are $11 for Sun City residents, $13.20 for non-residents. Tickets are on sale at Mountain Shadows, Desert Vista and Pinnacle community centers. Call 966-1424 for more information.

Training class set for hospice volunteers

Training Classes for Family Home Hospice Volunteers are slated to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Charleston Towers Building, 1701 W. Charleston Blvd., Suite 201.

The classes continue each Saturday up to Sept. 4. Volunteers must attend all classes. Classes are free to the public and no medical background is required.

Mayor welcomes neighbors to talk

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman's office is offering residents an opportunity to talk face to face with him on neighborhood issues from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Aug. 13 at Starbucks, 651 N. Rainbow Blvd.

Residents who have issues they would like to discuss are invited to join him for a cup of coffee in an informal setting. The city council meeting later that day, at 10 a.m. at City Hall, will also be an opportunity to voice concerns.

Community church schedules seminar

Sun City Community Church, 8560 Del Webb Blvd. in the Rampart Center, plans an on-going seminar open to anyone interested on the prophetic Book of Daniel in the Old Testament. The group meets at 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

The seminar will last approximately 14 weeks but people are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions.

Photo techniques discussion slated

A presentation on alternative photographic techniques is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society.

The program features the work of Diane Bush, award-winning photographer and college educator.

Her slide program will reveal some of what can be done with unusual photographic techniques. The program is free and open to the public.

The Nevada State Museum and Historical Society is located at 700 Twin Lakes Drive in Lorenzi Park.

Drive slated to help stock food bank

The Chancellor Gardens of the Lakes is sponsoring a food drive to benefit Christ the King Catholic Community food bank. The food bank helps families who need help making ends meet.

Starting Thursday, for one week, there will be a free ice cream treat to anyone bringing canned, or non-perishable foods to donate. Canned meat, tuna and ready to eat foods are especially appreciated.

Musical society seeking singers

The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society is searching for interested singers to audition for its 42nd season.

Brandeis luncheon set for Texas Station

A luncheon and registration for 2004-2005 study groups of Brandeis University National Women's Committee is planned for 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Texas Station.

Cost is $18 per person. Reservations are required

Miss Las Vegas event at Tropicana

The Miss Las Vegas pageant is planned for Aug. 29 at the Tropicana.

The organizers are currently accepting entries.

The pageant is open to children and teens and offers Miss and Ms. Scholarships and savings bonds.
