GOLF
Founders Shoot-Out
slated for Aug. 18
The Las Vegas Founders Shoot-Out 2003 is scheduled for Aug. 18 at the Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The event, which pairs amateurs with professionals seeking one of two special exemptions for the Las Vegas Invitational golf tournament in October, will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Las Vegas Founders Foundation.
Four amateur players are paired with a professional in a best-ball format. The entry fees are $650 for an individual and $2,500 for a foursome and include invitations, for a player and a guest, to the draw party, which includes food, beverage and entertainment.
The poolside party will take place at the JW Marriott on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.. Entries also include breakfast on Aug. 18, a gift package and a luncheon. Those interested can call 242-3005.
NLV course offers
half-price rates
The North Las Vegas Golf Course will offer special summer rates, from noon to 4 p.m. weekdays, through Aug. 29.
Adult and senior golfers can play for half-price, with the cost for adults $3.75 for each nine-hole round and the cost $3.25 for seniors. Junior golfers, ages 18 and younger, can play unlimited rounds for $2.00. Those interested can call 633-1833.

accepting juniors
Tom Carlson's Junior Golf Association, located at the Craig Ranch Golf Course, is accepting junior golfers for its introductory and advanced classes. Classes are open to boys and girls ages 5 to 18.
The classes are offered Saturday and Sunday and feature affordable rates and a small student-teacher ratio. Camps are slated from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Those interested can call 300-4673.
Silver Cup tourney
set for October
The Silver Cup, a Ryder Cup-style competition pitting women golfers from Northern Nevada against those from the Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association, is slated from Oct. 6-8 at the Sierra Nevada Golf Club in Reno.
Sherry Jackson and Laurie Johnson will serve as captains for the WSNGA squad, which will also feature Margie Bowgren, Masako Brown, Rita Byorick, Sue Defrancesco, Pam Downey, Doe Emes, Irene Frank, Cindy Froats, Tammy Gephardt, Jeanne Hudgins, Dianne Jett, Brenda Knott, Karen Lafferty, Kay Medrano, Pauline May, Mary McFarland, Rene Raynes and Sue Roma. The WSNGA has won the last three events.
VOLLEYBALL
Coed camp offers
instruction
An instructional volleyball camp, for boys and girls in grades seven through 11, is scheduled for Aug. 4-8 at Shadow Ridge High School.

League to register
players, cheerleaders
The Nevada Youth Football League has scheduled registration from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays and from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays at 1651 S. Buffalo Ave. The league is open to players and cheerleaders, ages 6-15.

instructional league
The Las Vegas Baseball Academy has scheduled its fifth annual Summer Instructional League, every Monday through Thursday this month at the Boys & Girls Club West, located at 2850 S. Lindell Road.
The league, open to players ages 7-12, will feature two sessions. Division 1 is for players ages 8 and younger, and Division 2 is for players 12 and younger.
Division 1 will meet every Monday and Wednesday, with Division 2 meeting every Tuesday and Thursday. The leagues will play from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Those interested can call 256-7084 or visit lvbaseballacademy.com.

Senior women's softball teams need players for several different age groups, including three 45-and-older squads, as well as a 55-and-older, 60-and-older and 65-and-older team.
Teams play in local and national tournaments, as well as in the city women's league and at Sun City Summerlin on Saturdays, for all levels of players.

Academy to host
camps at Palo Verde
The Ultimate Soccer Academy has scheduled several five-day soccer camps at Palo Verde High School, July 21-25 and Aug. 4-8. Half-day programs run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for ages 4-7, while full-day programs are also offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 7-16.
Full-day programs will feature indoor soccer during hot afternoons and all players will receive a soccer ball and T-shirt.
