View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. Brian M. Barrow, Coast Guard Cadet. Graduated from Silverado High School in 2003. Barrow recently enrolled as a cadet at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., where he will undergo four years of study leading to a baccalaureate degree. He is the son of Nancy A. and Randy A. Barrow of Las Vegas.
Ryun K. Borchers, Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice. Graduated from Silverado High School in 2000. Borchers recently completed eight weeks of training at the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J., where he studied water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, firefighting and marksmanship. He is the stepson of Alan R. and son of Noel K. Hangge of Las Vegas.
James Crowe, Navy Midshipman. Graduated from Boulder City High School in 2002. Crowe was recently inducted into the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where he will complete a six-week orientation that starts four years of preparation for commission as a Naval officer. He is the son of Tina K. Swanson of Henderson and James Crowe of Boulder City.
Joy J. Eckman, Navy Airman. Graduated from Valley High School in 2001. Eckman recently helped other sailors and marines refurbish a playground at the Hope Institute for Handicapped Children in Manama, Bahrain, as part of USS Tarawa's community relations program. She is the daughter of Lyada Eckman of Las Vegas.
Joshua S. Guild, Marine Corps Pvt. Graduated from Western High School in 2002. Guild recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He is the son of Michael S. Guild of Las Vegas.
Kaila Hart currently attends Centennial High School. Hart was recently nominated to represent Nevada as a National Scholar at the six-day National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., where she will have the opportunity to see the national government at work first-hand and to be part of a rare academic experience.
Kelly P. Haycock, Navy Midshipman. Graduated from Las Vegas High School in 2001. Haycock was recently inducted into the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where he will complete a six-week orientation that starts four years of preparation for commission as a Naval officer. He is the son of Paula R. and Ronald L. Haycock of Las Vegas.
Christopher M. Hooshmand, Marine Corps Pvt. Graduated from Desert Pines High School in 2002. Hooshmand recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He is the son of Denise A. Hooshmand of Las Vegas.
David Rogers, Jr., Marine Corps Sgt. Graduated from Basic High School in 1991. Rogers recently returned from a four-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf. His unit played a significant role in the direct support of combat forces in Iraq by building a 90-mile temporary fuel line north from Kuwait. The fuel line became a vital component to the military's rapid advance on Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Laura Tone, a 2000 graduate of Eldorado High School, is touring this summer with a Christian singing group called the Continental Singers. A member of Central Christian Church, Tone was selected to tour churches on the East Coast, in Amsterdam, and the Baltic states in Eastern Europe.
Sean Vail, a 2002 graduate of Palo Verde High School, was recently named MIS/CAD Systems Manager for Paragon Pools, a Las Vegas commercial and residential in-ground swimming pool construction company. He is the son of David and Mary Vail of Las Vegas.
