Senior league
seeks players
The Nevada Senior Volleyball League is looking for skilled players, ages 45 and older.

BASKETBALL
Tarkanian Academy
organizing leagues
The Tarkanian Basketball Academy has scheduled fall youth basketball leagues and tryouts for its club teams. The club teams are open to boys and girls, ages 7 to 17. Each club team will be limited to 10 players and the cost of the club team is $80 per month, plus a league fee.
Tryouts are scheduled for Sept. 6 from noon to 1:30 p.m. for players in fifth grade and below, and from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for players in the sixth grade and above, at Christ the King Church. Those interested can call 610-3853 or send an e-mail to tarkanian@earthlink.net.
The fall youth basketball leagues are slated to start Sept. 27 and will run through Nov. 22, with the winners and runners-up in each age group to advance to the regional American Roundball Corporation tournament. The leagues are open to boys and girls in grades three through eight. The entry fee is $80 per individual and $640 per team. Those interested can call 610-3853.
Summerlin NJB
to register Sept. 6
The Summerlin National Junior Basketball League has scheduled registration from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 6 at the Willows Community Center, located at 2775 Desert Marigold Lane; and from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Gardens Community Center. A birth certificate and proof of residency is required.
The league is open to players in grades one through eight and the registration fees range from $100 to $150 per player. Each additional sibling can register for $100 each. Those interested can call 615-5286.
Champs accepting
players for fall
Champs youth basketball is now accepting registration for its fall basketball leagues. The leagues are open to players of all skill levels, in grades three through 12. All games are announced, there are halftime shootouts and trivia contests and MVP and Champs awards for every game.
The national director is Steve Boyack, head coach at Cimarron-Memorial High School, while the local directors are former high school coaches Thad Simmons and Tom Hughes.

SOFTBALL
Henderson association
sets up registration
The Henderson Girls Softball Association has scheduled registration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Galleria at Sunset mall. Registration is also scheduled from 5 to 8 tonight and Sept. 3. The league is open to girls ages 5 to 16 and registration is also available at hgsa-nv.com.
Henderson league
seeks older players
The Henderson Softball Association, for ages 40 and older, is accepting registration for its fall season.
The registration fee is $40 and all games are played at the Russell Field Complex on Wednesday nights. Those interested can call Arthur Werner at 837-0216.

Wallyball players
sought for league
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled registration for an adult wallyball league, starting Monday. Registration, open to ages 16 and older, is $70 per team and will be accepted from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays at the Downtown Recreation Center, 105 W. Basic Road. Henderson signing up
for basketball, softball
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its fall adult basketball and softball leagues.
Registration is accepted from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, and from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, at the Sports Office, located at the Arroyo Grande Sports Complex, 298 Arroyo Grande Blvd.
Fees for basketball are $300 per team and fees for softball are $425 per team. Those interested can call 434-4131.

Church schedules
first tournament
St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church has scheduled its first golf tournament Sept. 27 at Black Mountain Country Club. The entry fee of $75 per person includes lunch, an awards ceremony and raffles. Multigenerational
event scheduled
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled a multigenerational golf event from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway. Registration is $20 per person or $70 per foursome.
The event features four-person teams playing short rounds of indoor/patio golf and play will be followed by a banquet. The event will provide an introduction to golf using Starting New At Golf equipment, provided by The First Tee of Nevada. Those interested can call 434-4131.
Cherer Challenge
slated for Saturday
The Cherer Challenge team championship golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday at the Tuscany Golf Club in Henderson. All proceeds from the event will go to Safe House in Henderson.
A $100 entry fee includes an embroidered golf shirt, lunch and prizes. Hole sponsorships are also available. Those interested in the four-person scramble can call Paris Cherer at 492-1757.
Realtors group
plans annual event
The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors has scheduled its 16th annual golf tournament, to benefit Habitat for Humanity and HELP of Southern Nevada, Sept. 15 at the Silverstone Golf Course in Las Vegas.
The entry fee of $150 includes breakfast, golf and lunch. It's $25 for lunch only and tee sponsorships are available for $150. Those interested can call Stasy Gerber at 784-5000.
Palm Valley sets
special event
The Palm Valley Golf Club grand reopening and breast cancer charity event is scheduled for Sept. 13. The $100 entry fee includes prizes, contests, three beers and a buffet lunch at the Summit Restaurant. It's $25 for the buffet lunch only.
Registration for the event, which will benefit the Las Vegas Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Cancer Support Group, is available at any Sun City golf course.
Volunteers needed
for LVI tourney
Volunteers are needed for the 21st annual Las Vegas Invitational golf tournament.
All volunteers, who must be older than 18, must pay a $25 fee to defray expenses, but in return they'll receive a volunteer badge to enter the event all five days, a season badge for a guest ($50 value), donuts, coffee and lunch, discounts on clothing and memorabilia, special promotions, admittance to a party after the final round and more.
The tournament is scheduled for Oct. 8-12 at TPC at Summerlin, TPC at The Canyons and the Southern Highlands Golf Club. Those interested can call Michele Morphy at 242-3008.
