San Gennaro Feast
slated for Sept. 10-14
The San Gennaro Feast is slated to be held at the 41-acre site on the corner of Rampart Boulevard and Alta Drive, across from the Suncoast, Sept. 10-14.
The event is slated to run 4 to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 4 p.m. to midnight Friday; 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. The event features live music and entertainment, specialty vendors, rides and arts and craft exhibits. Of course, the festival, called "a love affair with Italy" has plenty of Italian food and stellar Italian musicians. Tickets are $15 for all-day ride access, free to children 54 inches or shorter.

Goldon Monarch
plans wine tasting
The Golden Monarch Council has scheduled its fourth annual wine tasting at Gaudin Jaguar-Porsche-Aston Martin of Las Vegas, 7200 W. Sahara Ave., Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. This event will benefit Nathan Adelson Hospice's Silk Butterfly program.
The Silk Butterfly program provides education and counseling for terminally ill children and their families, as well as those grieving the death of a child.
A wide variety of fine wines provided by Johnson Brothers Beverage and there will be a silent auction and prize opportunities, including use of a Jaguar for two weeks.

Renaissance Festival
slated for Oct. 10-12
Come enjoy the merriment of the 10th annual "Age of Chivalry" Renaissance Festival at Sunset Park on Oct. 10-12. Royal parades, Shakespearean plays, full contact jousting tournaments, Celtic Rock Concerts (featuring Tempest, Wild Celts and Kinship), magicians, storytellers, comedians, jugglers, fire eaters, singers, dancers, and food of old world faire.

Library hosts
healthy festival
Everyone is invited to jump into a healthier you. West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd., is slated to host a Healthy People event Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the national Institute of Health and will offer free glucose and cholesterol readings, have food demonstrations and guest speakers (in English and Spanish) to talk about diabetes. begins next month
The Red Rock Canyon Photo Contest is being held in September. Photos will be accepted Sept. 13-14. All color photos must be of nature or wildlife taken at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Residents invited
to First Tuesday
Southwest residents are invited to participate in the Metropolitan Police Department's First Tuesday program, held monthly at the Southwest Area Command Center, 5925 Spring Mountain Road, at 7 p.m.
On the first Tuesday of each month, officers speak on different topics of concern like dealing with graffiti, vehicle theft and keeping safe while holiday shopping. Presentations are free and open to the public.

free appraisals
Do you have a treasure in your attic? Want to find out? The next appraisal clinic will be held at the Antique Sampler Shoppes, 6115 W. Tropicana Ave., Sept. 3 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Appraisals are free and held on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of one item per customer.
They are done by resident antique expert Dee Perino who has been a member of the Appraisers Association of America since 1972 and a member of the International Society of Appraisers since 1990. She has been in the antique business for more than two decades and is regularly called on to handle estate sales, insurance appraisals and bank sales.

The top three Winners will be announced Sept. 7, National Grandparents Day. There is no entry fee.

Workshop teaches
alternative therapies
An Alternative Therapies Workshop Series for those age 50 or older is slated to be offered at West Flamingo Center for Active Adults, 6255 W. Flamingo Road, beginning Sept. 23.
The series will cover topics like acupuncture, color therapy and aromatherapy. It runs seven consecutive Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. A fee of $50 includes all seven nights. Advance registration is required.
