begins next month
he Red Rock Canyon Photo Contest is underway. Photos will be accepted Sept. 13-14. All color photos must be of nature or wildlife taken at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Residents invited
to First Tuesday
Southwest residents are invited to participate in the Metropolitan Police Department's First Tuesday program, held monthly at the Southwest Area Command Center, 5925 Spring Mountain Road, at 7 p.m.
On the first Tuesday of each month, officers speak on different topics of concern like dealing with graffiti, vehicle theft and keeping safe while holiday shopping. Presentations are free and open to the public.

Expert offers
free appraisals
Do you have a treasure in your attic? Want to find out? The next appraisal clinic will be held at the Antique Sampler Shoppes, 6115 W. Tropicana Ave., Sept. 3 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Appraisals are free and held on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of one item per customer.
They are done by resident antique expert Dee Perino who has been a member of the Appraisers Association of America since 1972 and a member of the International Society of Appraisers since 1990. She has been in the antique business for more than two decades and is regularly called on to handle estate sales, insurance appraisals and bank sales.
Upcoming appraisal dates are: ; Sept. 16; Oct. 1; Oct. 14.

MUSIC
Moonlight Concert
Series begins Saturday
The 2003 Moonlight Concert Series at the Clark County Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, is slated to take place through Oct. 4, and features an eclectic mix of American and world music.
Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Michelle Shocked, the Irish band Solas and New Orleans' Dirty Dozen Brass Band are the scheduled guest performers.
Admission is $8 in advance, $10 at the gate, with children 12 and younger admitted free. Tickets are on sale at Borders Bookstores, Sunset Park and Winchester Center.
The Clark County Amphitheater features lawn seating and ample free parking. Picnics are welcome. No pets or smoking on the lawn are allowed. For more information, call Clark County Parks and Community Services at 455-8200.

Grandparents'
advice sought
The nonprofit Elder Wisdom Circle announces its "Advice of the Wise" Grandparents Day Contest. The contest is to honor grandparents everywhere by publishing their (current or late) words of wisdom and advice. EWC is accepting entries from now until Sept. 5.
The top three Winners will be announced Sept. 7, National Grandparents Day. There is no entry fee.

The Las Vegas Executive Express Network American Business Women's Association has slated its next meeting at Lawry's the Prime Rib, 4043 Howard Hughes Parkway., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The speaker will be Punam Mathur, vice president, diversity and community affairs for MGM/Mirage Corporate. Her talk will be "The Art of Negotiation."
